We are SO happy to see the sun! We opened the patio last night and it's a big hit! Make sure you come in and check it out!!

Weekend Update

Join us for Good Friday and enjoy our delicious Alaskan Halibut, served with Szechuan green beans and your choice of rice, for $17. Friday and Saturday nights, come out for Late Night Happy Hour (after 9pm) and try any of our appetizers for half-price in the bar! Make sure you make your reservations! On Easter Sunday, join us from 9am to 3pm for an extended brunch buffet. All of your favorite breakfast items, including ham, sausage, potatoes and french toast, as well as a wide variety of our lunch dishes and a chocolate fountain with strawberries and marshmallows! Our Bloody Marys, Bellinis, and Mimosas are all $6 this Sunday. Please call us to reserve a table for parties larger than 4.

with basketball season well underway, and march madness just around the corner, it's time to start planning where you'll be to watch your favorite teams take on some of their biggest rivals in the biggest tournament of college sports (ok, mayyyyybe that's an opinion).

but anyway... here at tannahs, we have some awesome offers for you. so what better time to take advantage of great food and drink AND the perfect neighborhood spot to watch the games?

today's "get to know" post comes from sarah, our director of marketing (and, the face behind this blog... so i'm talking about myself in third person... eh, oh well, nothing that doesn't already happen). in addition to being the director of marketing, sarah is also a part time bartender and one of the greeters at the weekend.

outside of tannahs, sarah enjoys drawing, traveling, reading, reading about traveling, and anything/everything about art, architecture and design. sarah can talk for hours about traveling, and her favorite trips include new zealand, turkey and italy.

her favorite candy is (like jill) anything with chocolate + peanut butter, or oreos... but the best thing is the ben & jerry's dublin mudslide ice cream. her favorite colors are cerulean blue and (any) greens. and try sarah's favorite dish: shrimp + scallops veggie stir fry with the zesty cranberry sauce, or the crab wontons. and, if you need a cocktail or wine recommendation, sarah loves the selbach-oster riesling and the peach pit pama martini.

this weekend is the very last weekend of our dinner for two menu. we're showing off two of our best sauces, to make sure this goes out with a bang: our sambal sauce and our hawaiian sauce (not to make you start dreaming of wakiki beach or anything...). read on:

our sambal sauce is an oyster-based sauce with chili garlic. this sauce is not sweet at all! we add caramelized white onions and crisp wok'd asparagus, which bump up the flavor. the most popular meat to pair the sambal with - and the one we recommend most - is our pork, but the sambal also tastes just as awesome with chicken. wine-wise, since this is a spicy sauce, which isn't sweet at all, we'd totally pair this dish with our selbach-oster riesling (stay tuned for a post on the fish label wine!).

on the other side of the spectrum, we have the hawaiian sauce, a sweet-and-sour based sauce. verrrry similar to the spicy hawaiian, but without the chili peppers. it does have red and green peppers, red onions and some seriously delish pineapple though. (remember you can add or subtract any veggies!). while it's not spicy, this dish would also go best with the sokol blosser evolution, a crisp, light, white wine.

This weekend, our Dinner for Two feature returns stronger than ever with two awesome sauces: our Mongolian and Szechuan. Remember to read the blog for details and wine pairings for each sauce. In the bar, we're featuring our new Tannah-rita, the perfect drink for dreaming of the beach (while we slowly drown in the Snowpocalypse). Sunday morning, make sure to join us from 10-2 for a leisurely brunch buffet featuring all of your favorite breakfast items and a wide variety of our wok'd dishes. get to know... our sauces

this weekend, we're featuring two sauces on our dinner for two menu. we're returning to the mongolian sauce (why not? it's a really good sauce!), but we're showing off our delish szechuan sauce.

our szechuan sauce is actually really similar to the mongo... it's soy and ginger based, but we throw in our fantastic chili garlic sauce, which is what makes it spicy! chef travis likes this sauce best with beef, a lot of guests get it with chicken, and don't forget - we feature the szechuan seafood trio, so realllly, the szechuan sauce goes with everything. wine-wise, we don't recommend pairing it with evvverything, but we do think it complements the boxhead shiraz quite nicely.

Happy Valentine's Weekend!

This weekend is a special one, and we hope you are celebrating in style!

Make sure you've made your reservations for this weekend, as we are filling up fast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday! We have a spectacular four-course menu for $59 per couple and some absolutely stellar entertainment lined up for Saturday. Lester Estelle and Friends, a local jazz group, will be playing LIVE Saturday evening after 7:30. Make sure you check the blog for details on each sauce offered on our weekend menu (next post).

this weekend, our valentine's menu has our black pepper and sweet chili garlic sauces featured prominently. read on for details on each awesome sauce.

our black pepper surf and turf is one delicious dish. we wok crisp asparagus and white onions with diver scallops and beef medallions in our oyster sauce and coarse black pepper. kind of spicy, really peppery... this dish works well with both the beef and the scallops. george recommends pairing this with either the louis martini cab sauv or the selbach-oster fish label riesling.

the sweet chili garlic sauce is the base in several other sauces, like the general tso's. it's a spicy red chili sauce with teriyaki, so it is a little bit sweeter (as you may have noticed with the general tso's...). for the valentine's menu, we're wok'ing up jumbo gulf coast shrimp, diver sea scallops and calamari steak with this sauce. there's also red peppers, crisp asparagus, and caramelized onions. we think this wine goes best with either the misfit cycle buff beauty malbec/shiraz or the toad hollow chardonnay.

today i'm featuring annette, one of our greeters. annette is a friend of the bossette, and she only works during the day a few days a week. she loves tannahs though, so sometimes you'll catch her here with her hubby and other friends.

outside of tannahs, annette is the mentor for the mothers of preschoolers and her church. she enjoys working out, spending time in her gardens and reading (ed. note: aren't you all just craving the time we can spend outside in gardens? or better, reading in our gardens...). also, annette's oldest son, john, got married in december, so annette is excited about being a grandma!

her favorite ice cream in from cold stone creamery: their german chocolate cake (oh yummmy!), and her ultimate favorite tannahs dishes are the crab wontons (seriously, who doesn't love those?!), our candied shrimp, and "right now" her favorite wok dish is the silk spicy chicken (she says she changes it up once in a while...).

and there you have it. we're slowly working out way through the staff, so keep an eye out here for more!

this week we are featuring two new sauces on our dinner for two menu: our general tso's and our honey garlic.

our general tso's sauce is a sweet and sour based sauce with sweet chili garlic. we describe it as "fiery" ... and fiery it is. we throw in some minced garlic, caramelized onions and green onion sprigs for a little extra flavor. try our general tso's with either shrimp or chicken. as for wine... we suggest pairing this with toad hollow chardonnay, or for the by-the-bottle fans, try it with the channing daughter pinot grigio.

on the complete opposite side of our flavor spectrum, we've got honey garlic. as the name suggests, this is a sweet and garlicky sauce made with honey and teriyaki. there's a lot of garlic (to ward off the "twi-hards") and a lot of broccoli (but remember you can add any other veggies you want). best eaten with chicken or shrimp. we recommend pairing this sauce with our columbia crest grand estates merlot or the louis martini cabernet. bottle-wise, try it with seghesio barbera (a wine not on our list... oooooh).

today i'm featuring jill, one of our greeters, who has been with tannahs since we were at our old location. jill is a greeter, so you'll see her smiling face when you come in, but she also runs food and helps expo in the kitchen (the expediter or "expo" gets the plates ready to come out to your table - the szechuan aioli and dip with our kobe burger, the cilantro and lime on the pad thai...).

outside of work, jill nannies two little boys and also enjoys reading books and watching movies/tv. she's a harry potter fan (so am i!), and she loves the tv show friends. jill names her "best vacation" as the time she went to colorado with her friend, stayed in a cabin and went hiking, but also got to go see her cousin in concert at red rocks (he's in the popular band 311).

if you ever need to bribe jill, give her some reeses or oreos (or anything with either of the two)... her favorite color is red (+ white = nebraska??), and if you need a recommendation on what to eat, try jill's two favorites: the japanese noodles or szechuan chicken.

this weekend, our featured sauces on the dinner for two menu are the kung pao and the spicy hawaiian. both are excellent and both are popular guest choices.

the kung pao is "our version of a traditional kung pao sauce". it's a little garlicky and kind of sweet, but definitely delicious. we add chili peppers, caramelized white onions and green peppers for a little extra flavor (but remember, you can add and subtract any veggies you want!). the kung pao works best with chicken, duck or pork. as for wine, we recommend pairing the kung pao with chateau st michelle cabernet (oh so yummy) and the gascon malbec.

the spicy hawaiian is also very popular. it's a sweet and sour based sauce, so a little sweeter than most of our dishes, but the spiciness balances it out. we add red and green peppers, red onions, chili peppers and pineapple to the dish. this is a sauce that pairs best with shrimp or chicken. since this is a spicier dish, we think a good wine would be our sokol blosser evolution. it's a perfect wine if you want to mellow out the spiciness. if you want to kick it up a notch, pair the spicy hawaiian with the haras sauvignon blanc.

today i'm sharing a little bit about jennifer, one of our servers. jenn is a friendly and outgoing girl, and every table loves her. outside of tannahs, jenn enjoys spending time with her family and going out to the stables to ride her horse. speaking of horses, jenn is trying to start a charity that rescues abused and/or abandoned horses to rehabilitate them, and then invite teenagers who have faced the same circumstances to come out and spend time working with the animals (what an awesome and truly inspiring idea!).

jenn's favorite ice cream is caramel with a chocolate covered waffle cone (ooooh, yummy!), her favorite color is blue (i like blue too, but am partial to red and black ;)) and if you ever need a tannahs recommendation, try jenn's favorite: kung pao chicken (again! must be tasty...) with white rice or our always popular, and another of jenn's favorites, crab wontons.

this week i'm featuring our mongolian sauce and our silk spicy sauce. both are on our dinner for two feature this week. be sure to check out our menu for more delicious sauces, and keep an eye out here for more "get to know... our sauces"

the mongolian sauce is a soy-based sauce, with a "hint of garlic and ginger" (thanks chef travis!), which makes it sweeter and kind of salty. we add shiitake mushrooms, caramelized white onions and green onion sprigs, and the resulting flavor is a sweet, gingery concoction. the best meat to pair with the mongo (as we affectionately call it here) sauce is beef, but it tastes pretty awesome with chicken too. wine-wise, it'd be best to pair the mongolian beef with a red wine, like our big fire pinot noir, a red zin, like our rosenblum or rombauer zinfandels, or our lioco indica.

the silk spicy sauce is a teriyaki-based, spicy chili sauce. we add minced garlic, caramelized white onions and snow peas to the wok for a really great, spicy flavor. this is definitely one sauce you have to be hot and spicy lover to like! we recommend pairing this sauce with chicken, duck, pork or shrimp. pair the silk spicy with our selbach-oster riesling, kung fu girl riesling (which is *awesome*), or nigl freiheit gruner veltliner (with the shrimp) to really bring out the spiciness and flavor in the sauce.

Warming Up at Tannahs!

We are quickly approaching warmer weather, at least as far as we can tell. The sun is out, the snow is melting and we're inching closer and closer to spring. Only two months! You may have heard that we had a little incident on Monday. We were so tired of the snow that we made it rain.. inside. A water main broke, and we spent the day drying out, but we opened up bright and early Tuesday morning and the place looks better than ever. Thanks to all who were patient with us on Monday!

Your Weekend Update

We're excited for this weekend. It's going to be sunny, and maybe even in the 40s! It's not quite patio weather YET but come join us for a Late Night Happy Hour on Friday and Saturday and let's rock the bar like we did last weekend! All appetizers are HALF-PRICE (in the bar only) between 9pm and close both Friday and Saturday. Check out our menu to see what awesome eats you'll get!

We're dreaming of beaches and bikinis right now (blame that nice little heat wave...) so we have two featured cocktails this weekend. The first is our Peach Pit PAMA (90210, where are you?) for $7, and the second is a Malibu with pineapple juice for $4. If you're not quite ready to take those Christmas lights down, then warm up with our Depth Charge: coffee, Van Gogh Espresso Vodka, Baileys and whipped cream with a little Creme de Menthe.

This weekend marks the beginning of our Winter Dinner for Two for $39 Menu. Choose from Calamari or Spicy Shrimp appetizers, a soup or side salad, one of our featured wok dishes with tofu, chicken, beef or pork, and then top it off with either Mochi Ice Cream or our Molten Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream for dessert. Our featured sauces this Friday and Saturday are our Mongolian sauce and our Silk Spicy sauce. Sunday morning, come in between 10am and 2pm and try our fabulous brunch buffet. We offer all your favorite breakfast foods, such as French Toast, omelettes to order, ham and bacon and sausage (oh my!), skillets, and pastries. woohoo! finally my first post about someone on the staff! today's featured person is none other than mendy!

mendy is the bossette. you might see her helping out up front or sitting down making our schedules. outside of tannahs, mendy likes to run, read and lay by the pool. she also likes to attend her kids' sporting events - trevor plays basketball and travis is a k-state superstar football player. want to know something interesting about mendy? she married her high school sweetheart (awwww). her favorite ice cream is chocolate with almonds on top from sheridans, and her favorite color is purple (something along the lines of "go k-state"). and finally, if you ever need a recommendation for what to eat at tannahs, try mendy's favorite: kung pao with chicken and fried rice! mendy also realllly likes the bin 36 merlot, and usually tops it off with a cafe tannahs - our signature coffee drink with kahlua, baileys and frangelico. yum!

trying to make reservations for tannahs? we recommend reservations for friday and saturday evening, and always for parties larger than ten.

there are three ways to make reservations for your favorite leawood asian restaurant:

1. call us! 913.681.2255. there's always a friendly person on the other end of the phone ready to book your favorite table!

2. our website! the reservations go directly to our reservations coordinator who then enters them in the book.

3. open table. another great way to get to us... plus you'll be asked to write a review after your visit.

wooooo we're getting close to christmas and new years, and we're already in the midst of hannukah (happy hannukah, friends!)... where did the time go?! it seems like only yesterday we were dressed in our halloween best, or even still watching 4th of july fireworks explode over our heads.

this saturday, come enjoy a crazy holiday sweater night at tannahs... wear that sparkling reindeer, light-up santa and wooden sleigh sweater in and we'll give you a small order of our famous crab wontons... FREE!

Wednesday, Thursday, Weekend, oh my!

Wednesday is $6 martini night at Tannahs, so stop in for a Happy Hour appetizer (4-6, in the bar only Monday-Thursday) and a yummy cocktail, and then stay for a delicious $11 wok'd shrimp dish. Thursday, we offer $5 glasses on selected wines, and our house specialty, a spicy Szechuan Trio. This weekend, remember Late Night at Tannahs on Friday and Saturday for half price appetizers in the bar from 9-close... and pair that with a Tinsel-tini! In the kitchen, Chef is preparing a Black Pepper scallops and filet duo served with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus... this will definitely be a crowd-pleaser! Be sure to check out our menu online for more features and fabulous dishes!

As I mentioned last week, we are debuting a new and expanded wine list this week! George has been working very diligently on this and we are very excited about it. It is sure to please everyone from the novice to the conneisseur.

This Friday, we will be having LIVE MUSIC! featuring Lester Estelle, Sr. and Friends, a local jazz group. He will begin playing around 7:30 pm so get here early to get a good seat!

A VERY important note here: we will be OPEN for lunch this coming Saturday, Dec. 12 to accomodate those attending holiday shows and shoppers. And don't forget to make your holiday reservations, Sunday brunch reservations and New Years reservations as soon as possible! We are filling up FAST!

welcome back to our blog -- it's been a few months since our last post, but we're hoping you still check us out every now and then :) emails will be out this week for our upcoming specials and Halloween treats.

We have another amazing weekend planned here at Tannahs!

On both Friday and Saturday nights we'll be running drink specials from the bar: Try George's specially made Raspberry Lemonade Sangria for $6. Or, give Meryl's signature Pear Blossom Martini a taste for $6.

If mixed drinks aren't your style, have a go at the 90 Schilling Ale for only $2.50, or check out the wine selection which is sure to have something for every taste. We've also started carrying Boulevard's Smokestack series, so your choices here at Tannahs are even more varied than ever before.

For entertainment on Friday night, relax and kick back on our patio from 8pm until closing with Will Pro Jazz. Straight from the campus of KU, the instrumental jazz music of Will Pro will give you the perfect background to enjoy a drink and lounge away the work week blues.

Saturday night we welcome back Terry Wright to fill our patio with some seriously sweet tunes. From 8pm until closing, Terry will be giving us soft rock covers with his own person style, so swing by and enjoy a Tannahs favorite.

And don't forget about Dad this Sunday - bring him in for a tasty breakfast! We open our doors at 8:30am and serve breakfast until 2pm, with the main menu available beginning at 11am. What's a better way to thank Dad than to let us take care of him with a Bloody Mary and a Stir Fry Skillet or a plate of homemade pancakes?
